The Football Association of Maldives held its Ordinary Congress 2026 tonight at Meerumaa Event Hall. The congress marks the first under the new administration, which was elected in July 2025 following a year-long Normalisation Committee period. During the congress, members voted to approve the proposed budget for 2026, the consolidated and revised balance sheet, the profit and loss statement for 2025, as well as the 2025 activity report.
The historic Maldives team, winners of the SAFF Futsal Championship, returned home to a rousing and heroic welcome. The celebrations then continued with an open-top bus parade to Artificial Beach, where thousands of supporters gathered to welcome their heroes. Upon the team’s arrival at Artificial Beach, the celebrations peaked with fireworks and a spectacular laser show. The championship trophy was officially presented to the Minister of Sports and the President of FAM. The night concluded with live traditional boduberu performances, as players posed for photographs and signed autographs for fans.
Maldives have discovered their group-stage opponents for the upcoming SAFF Under-20 Championship following the official draw held in Bangkok, Thailand, after the trophy presentation ceremony of the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship. As hosts of the tournament, Maldives have been placed in Group A, where they will face Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka in the opening stage of the competition. Group B will see Bangladesh competing against India and Pakistan. The SAFF Under-20 Championship will be hosted in Malé, Maldives, from March 23 to April 3. The tournament marks the return of SAFF football to the Maldives for the first time since the SAFF Championship in 2021.
The largest Under-14 football tournament ever held in the Maldives is set to kick off in early February, bringing together 18 football academies from across the country. The competition will begin with a group stage, featuring three groups of six teams each. At the conclusion of the group phase, the top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed team across the three groups, will advance to the league stage. The 10 qualifying teams will then compete in a single-round league format, with the top-placed team at the end of the league phase being crowned champions.

Although the team were unable to secure points in the tournament, it is important to note that this marks the first time a Maldivian women’s futsal team has been formed and competed in an international tournament. Despite facing preparation challenges, the team put up strong performances against Bhutan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, losing all three matches by narrow margins.
