
The President of the Football Association of Maldives provides strategic leadership and direction for football across the nation. The role carries responsibility for guiding policy, representing Maldivian football at national, regional and international levels, and ensuring that the association operates with integrity, transparency and long-term vision.
Ahmed Thariq serves as President of the Football Association of Maldives. He was elected by the FAM Congress in accordance with the Statutes and chairs the Executive Committee, the association’s strategic and oversight body.
Born on 4 October 1980, President Thariq brings a unique blend of sporting, administrative and public leadership experience. A former member of the Maldives Senior National Football Team, he represented the country at the highest level from 2002 to 2013, contributing to one of the most successful periods in Maldivian football history.
Beyond the pitch, he has held senior administrative roles within club football, including serving as General Secretary of New Radiant Sports Club and founding Mahibadhoo Sports Club, reflecting his long-standing commitment to grassroots and community football development.
President Thariq is a serving Member of the People’s Majlis for Mahibadhoo Constituency and is currently in his third parliamentary term, bringing valuable governance and policy experience to the leadership of Maldivian football.
In his role, the President represents the Football Association of Maldives in its relations with FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation, the South Asian Football Federation, government institutions and international partners. He presides over Congress and Executive Committee meetings and ensures that decisions are implemented effectively through the General Secretariat.
